*This recipe is not made for rolled, cut-out cookies

Ingredients:

  • 5 C flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 C (2 sticks) butter – softened to room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 C powdered sugar
  • 1 C vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • red and green colored sugar crystals – for topping

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking soda and cream of tartar – set aside
  3. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, or by hand if you’re strong, cream sugar, butter and vanilla
  4. Add powdered sugar, oil and eggs – beat until well combined
  5. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking soda and cream of tartar
  6. Slowly add a cup at a time of dry mixture to wet mixture, stirring after each cup is added – just until combined – do not overmix
  7. Form rounded teaspoonfuls into balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets
  8. Using a moistened paper towel wet the bottom of a glass, dip in colored sugar (re-dipping for each cookie) and flatten ball of dough – you may need to apply the moistened paper towel every so often, to keep glass wet and easily able to pick up sugar crystals
  9. Bake for 10 – 13 minutes or until edges turn slightly brown – check often, you do not want burnt cookies
  10. Remove from oven and immediately transfer to cool on wire racks
